  • First of all, connect an Ethernet cable from your Netgear Nighthawk router to a PC/Laptop.
  • On the connected device, launch a web browser to log into Netgear router.
  • Next, type the default web address or in the address bar.
  • On the Netgear login page, enter the default username and password of the Netgear router.
  • These are: username is ‘admin’ and password is ‘password’.
  • Once done, press the login button to open the router’s configuration page.

  • Attach antennas to the Nighthawk router. Disconnect the modem from the power source and remove all the cables.
  • Use an Ethernet cable and connect it from the Internet port of the Netgear router to the LAN port of the modem.
  • Turn on both the router and the modem by hooking up to a power adapter.
  • Now, connect a computer to the Nighthawk device with an Ethernet cable.
  • Next, connect to the router's Wi-Fi network by using either an Ethernet cable or the network name (SSID) and password (passkey). The network name and password are printed on the back of the router.
  • The Netgear Genie will automatically start the installation process. If the setup process doesn’t start automatically then open a web browser on your computer and visit the web address

Netgear Nighthawk Series Routers FAQs

If you want to assign specific IP addresses to different computers then follow the steps mentioned below:

  1. First of all, log into the Netgear router’s web interface.
  2. Click on the ‘Basic’ tab and then go to the ‘Attached Devices’ to find out which IP address is assigned to which device.
  3. From the ‘ADVANCED’ menu, select the ‘Setup’ option and then ‘LAN setup’.
  4. Next, find the ‘Address Reservation’ option. Click ‘Add’.
  5. Now, fill in the IP address (ex: 192.168.1.x), the MAC Address, and the Device Name. 
  6. Click on the ‘Add’ button to save the changes.

A message will flash on the Netgear router’s dashboard whenever a new firmware update will available. You need to click on this message to download or install new firmware. Follow the steps below to complete the Netgear Firmware update:

  1. Use an Ethernet cable to connect a PC with the Netgear router.
  2. Open a web browser and visit the Netgear default web address
  3. Use the default username and password to log into Netgear router.
  4. On the Netgear router’s interface, go to the ‘ADVANCED’ tab and head over to the ‘Administration’ option.
  5. Now, click on the ‘Firmware Update’.
  6. Check the box and press ‘Yes’.

The procedure of the Netgear router reset is simple. In case, the Netgear device stuck during the login or setup process, you can reset the Netgear device. After you reset the Netgear device, the device itself removes all the previous settings.

  1. Find the Reset button on the back side of the Netgear router.
